LAKE ERIE FISHING REGULATORY REFORM TASK FORCE TO MEET IN COLUMBUS ON MONDAY

COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio Lake Erie Fishing Regulatory Reform Task Force will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, December 10 at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife District One office, 1500 Dublin Rd., Columbus.

This final meeting of the task force will cover:

  1. A review of the proposed commercial quota allocation system for yellow perch.
  2. Vessel monitoring and electronic catch reporting devices for commercial fishing vessels.
  3. Establishment of review and timeline criteria for the task force final report to the Ohio General Assembly.

The task force is made up of 15 members representing Lake Erie sport and commercial fishing interests, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, fish wholesalers, charter boat operators, academic institutions, the Ohio General Assembly and the office of Governor Ted Strickland.

Senate Bill 77, signed into law by the governor in July, charged the task force with recommending statutory rulemaking and regulatory changes to Ohio’s commercial fishing laws. The task force must submit its findings and report to the Ohio General Assembly no later than December 31.
