Garmin GPS II+ Receiver Setup
 

 
Before starting, if the GPS unit is being used for the first time follow the "INITIALIZING THE RECEIVER" procedure outlined in the owners manual.

Setting the Receiver to the NMEA Interface

  1. Once the receiver has been initialized go to the "MAIN MENU" page. This is accomplished by pressing the "PAGE" button until the "MAIN MENU" page is displayed.
     
  2. Scroll to "SYSTEM MENU" menu item.
    Scroll by using the large oval button on the receiver. Pressing the top part of the button to scroll upward, pressing the bottom of the button to scroll down, right side to scroll right, and left to scroll left.
     
  3. Press "ENTER."
     
  4. The "SETUP MENU" page should be displayed.
     
  5. Scroll to the "INTERFACE" menu item.
     
  6. Press "ENTER."
     
  7. The "INTERFACE" page should be displayed and should look something similar to this (this is the default interface):
     
     
    INTERFACE
    GRMN/GRMN
    HOST
          WAITING...
                     _ _ _ of _ _ _
                           PACKETS

     
  8. Press "ENTER"
     
  9. The top line should be hi-lited. In this example "GRMN/GRMN" is hi-lited.
     
  10. Press "ENTER" again.
     
  11. The first letter should now be hi-lited, "G" in this example.
     
  12. Using the scroll button scroll through the listing of different interfaces and find the "NMEA/NMEA?" item.
     
  13. Press "ENTER"
     
  14. Now the "INTERFACE" screen should look like this:
     
     
    INTERFACE
    NMEA/NMEA      4800 baud
    NMEA 0183 2.0

     
  15. Press "PAGE" or "QUIT" to go back to the "SETUP MENU" page.
     
  16. Press "PAGE" or "QUIT" again to go back to the "MAIN MENU" page.
