Small Earthquake Beneath Lake Erie, Ohio

A small earthquake was felt by some residents in Lake County communities of Eastlake, Mentor-on-the-Lake, and Willoughby, and one person in east Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, at 10:32 a.m. EST on January 13th, 2006. The computed epicenter was beneath Lake Erie in the general vicinity of a 2.6-magnitude earthquake on January 6, 2006. Residents reported rattling of objects on shelves and a booming sound. One resident felt this event and the one on January 6th, and reported that the former was larger. All felt reports received were from individuals relatively close to the Lake Erie shoreline.
