Two Year Temporary Duty

As part of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (a.k.a. economic stimulus) the ODNR Division of Forestry has proudly launched the Ohio Woodland Jobs Corps. This two year stimulus-backed program will create 132 green jobs, provide funds for college and technical education, remove invasive species, and help improve the health of Ohio's forests. Dan Balser, the Division’s Forest Health Administrator, will coordinate this initiative along with his statewide forest health duties.

To ensure the continued viability of the Forest Health Program, Lisa Bowers has agreed to be Dan’s assistant for the next two years. While Lisa completes this two-year forest health assignment, her urban forestry duties will be shared among the other regional urban foresters. Therefore, community officials in the following counties requiring urban forestry assistance should contact the appropriate Regional Urban Forester, as indicated below:

  • Delaware, Knox, and Morrow - Lola Lewis (330/339-2205)

  • Fairfield, Franklin, Licking, and Pickaway - Ann Bonner (740/589-9910)

During Lisa’s two-year forest health assignment, the Division of Forestry will strive to provide communities with the high level of personal help they have come to expect. Lisa will return to her normal urban forestry duties in July, 2011.

**Lisa will still process the TCUSA applications and coordinate the annual TCUSA Award Ceremony within her project.**

The Emerald Ash Borer is rapidly becoming a significant threat to our urban tree canopies.  To ensure that your community is prepared for its environmental, social, and economic impact, I strongly recommend that you develop and implement an EAB Management Plan.
