Globe Norway Maple - Acer platanoides 'Globosum'
Shaker Heights (Cleveland Area) Planted: Unknown
4076 East 189th Site: 8' Tree Lawn

1971 Comments:
These trees have a formal globe habit which is characteristic of this cultivar. They are uniform in height and in spread throughout the planting. They provide a very formal appearance which is out of place in this informal suburban area. The only merit is the trees will not interfere with utility lines directly overhead. One of the observers said, "This is the silliest looking street I have ever seen".

1997 Comments:
None of these plants remain. They were removed about twenty years ago and replaced with crabapples and Callery Pears. This selection of Norway maple did worse than the others. Many people commented that they did not think they were trees. This may have had something to do with the reason these plants were removed.
