Sweetgum - Liquidambar styraciflua
Cleveland Area Planted: 1952
4619 Harley Site: 6' Tree Lawn

1971 Comments: These trees are somewhat large for a narrow tree lawn. They are located close to the sidewalk, but have been limbed up to prevent interference with traffic. The uniform size and habit of the trees present a very attractive setting for the homes. They provide shade for both the street and the homeowners' lawns.

1997 Comments: These plants are in a six-foot tree lawn and yet many of the plants have survived. Four of the five original plants show some disruption of sidewalks. The trees are fairly attractive. Sweetgums make a nice street tree if the fruit is not a concern.

Sixty-five percent of the overall planting survived (44 of 68 trees).
1997 data on the table are based on 5 trees.
