Main Feature:
Mixed mesophytic forest.
This small mixed hardwood forest is dominated by exceptionally large sugar maple, black oak, red oak, shagbark hickory and black walnut trees.
Several large specimens of tulip tree, black gum, white oak, white ash and wild black cherry are also present. Heavy grazing in the past has unfortunately reduced the abundance and diversity of spring wildflowers.
Location:
Located in Knox County less than 1 mile northeast of Mt. Vernon on the south side of U.S. Route 36. A parking lot is present at the rear of the Knox County Opportunity Center and a trail system starts from the parking lot.
