Main Feature:
Mixed swamp forest with vernal pools, good spring wildflowers.
This mixed-swamp forest is adjacent to and part of the Paul B. Sears Woods State Nature Preserve complex. Carmean Woods has a diversity of tree species and spring wildflowers as well as vernal pools which provide habitat for amphibians.
Carmean Woods was a gift to the division from Frederick L. Carmean in 1986.
Location:
Located 1 mile southwest of Bucyrus on State Rte 4, proceed 2 miles west on Mt. Zion Rd. Parking is available at the fire station (without blocking access). The preserve is on the north side of the road. Carmean Woods is adjacent to Sears Woods State Nature Preserve.
