Urban Wood Utilization Project

To address an increase in urban wood waste generated by the Emerald Ash Borer, Davey Tree Expert Company and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry partnered with Ohio State University on a wood utilization project.

With funds and direction provided by Davey Tree and the Division of Forestry, juniors and seniors from OSU’s Department of Design took on the challenge of designing wood products that could be made from urban trees as their Winter 2012 class project.

Concepts from the 19 industrial design students are displayed here for review. Our hope is that after seeing the economic opportunity in these designs, entrepreneurs will explore their business potential and take advantage of this available resource.
