Abandoned property in Lake Erie
Salvage Permits
People or organizations that would like to recover, alter, salvage, or destroy any abandoned property that is located on, in, or in the immediate vicinity of and associated with a submerged watercraft or aircraft in Lake Erie must obtain a permit to do so from ODNR. A permit may authorize the operation for one year.
To apply for a permit, an application must be submitted to the ODNR Office of Coastal Management and will be reviewed for a maximum of 60 days. Permits require approval or conditional approval from the Ohio Historical Society prior to being issued by ODNR.
