Wolf Creek Riparian Corridor

Approximately 5.5 acres of permanent conservation easement will be acquired for the future reconstruction of Wolf Creek to an overwide or multi-stage design that will capture bacteria and protect the highly used beaches at Maumee Bay State Park.  A corridor restoration plan will also be developed to identify next steps for the riparian channel reconstruction.

Toledo Lighthouse Restoration Plans and Specifications

Plans, specifications and bid documents for up $1 million for the Toledo Lighthouse Restoration Project will be produced. Restoration will include replacing Plexiglass windows (70 in all) and concrete, and installing needed infrastructure.

Maumee Bay State Park Shoreline and Wetland Restoration Plan

A plan will be developed for shoreline and coastal wetland restoration at or adjacent to Maumee Bay State Park. The plan will include restoration of the Lake Erie shoreline, protection of the park’s Lake Erie beaches from ongoing E. coli contamination and reduction of sediment and nutrient loadings from the Wolf Creek watershed. An approach, schedule and budget will be included.

Wynn Road Site Acquisition for Ecosystem Restoration

This project is to acquire 57 acres of a coastal corridor upstream of Maumee Bay that will provide water quality protection and restoration. A separate, future project will restore the site and build wetlands/terrain mound using dredge materials.

Dam removal in the Ottawa River, Ohio: A feasibility study needed for comprehensive regional planning.

A feasibility study will be conducted on removal of a 1920s lowhead dam near RM 11 on the Ottawa River.  Upstream and downstream impacts will be evaluated considering flow changes that would result and sediments will be evaluated for possible contamination.  A recommendation on dam removal will be offered based on the information gathered.

Investigation of Wolf Creek Bacterial Impact on Maumee Bay State Park Beach

Historically, high bacteria levels at the state park beach have resulted in advisories and impacted the safety and attractiveness of this public resource.  The top layer of sediments in Wolf Creek/ Berger Ditch is suspected to be a bacteria reservoir that is flushed into the park during storms.  This study will examine these sediments to determine the sources and longevity of the bacteria.
