Volunteers will clean up trees, litter and debris on the west and east side of 21.2-acre Sherod Park which is located northeast of the intersection of U.S. Route 6 and Coen Road in Vermilion Township. Sherod Park is adjacent to the west of the Coen Road Access, a 0.21-acre end-of-road access site. Combined, the two sites create nearly a quarter mile of coastal access to Lake Erie.

The Center will publicize and conduct an annual underwater archeology conference and workshop, manage the survey of a Lake Erie Shipwreck by volunteer divers, manage the investigation of sites with possible shipwrecks and the search for new shipwreck sites.

A curriculum guide on Sandusky area maritime history will be developed to meet Ohio Academic Content Standards for third, fourth and fifth grade studies. The guide will include information on each of the main topics interpreted at the Maritime Museum of Sandusky, historic photographs, documents, activities and lesson plans. The lesson plans will relate the maritime history to the community, Ohio and United States history.
