The Division of Forestry is a proud partner of the Call Before You Cut campaign, an effort to provide in-depth forest management information to Ohio’s 400,000 landowners.

The program is a joint effort of the ODNR Division of Forestry, OSU Extension, Rural Action, the Ohio Federation of Soil & Water Conservation Districts, ODNR Division of Soil & Water Conservation, the Society of American Foresters, The Nature Conservancy, the Better Business Bureau, the American Tree Farm System, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the USDA Forest Service Northeastern Area, and the National Wild Turkey Federation.

Landowner Assistance

Creating a woodland depends on your wants and needs, and the condition and capability of the woodland as it exists.

Service Foresters are uniquely qualified by training and experience to help landowners decide what can and should be done to develop woodlands for wildlife habitat/viewing, timber production, rare species habitat, hunting, or recreation.

Ohio has 17 Service Foresters statewide that work one-on-one with woodland owners, providing management plans, technical assistance and information on tree planting projects, woodland improvement activities, and timber marketing assistance.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources – Division of Forestry receives funding assistance from the United States Dept. of Agriculture in the delivery of certain programs.  In accordance with Federal law and U.S. Department of Agriculture policy, this institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.
