About Coastal Management

Coastal management is a cooperative effort by federal and state agencies, political subdivisions, local groups and individuals who are dedicated to the comprehensive management of the nation’s coastal resources.

This includes monitoring activities that affect the resources, and ensuring resource protection while balancing often competing economic, cultural and environmental interests.

With a 312-mile long coast, Lake Erie is considered by many to be Ohio's greatest natural resource. To ensure this important resource and the adjoining coastal area are protected, restored and enhanced for this and future generations, the Office of Coastal Management administers the federally approved Ohio Coastal Management Program.
