The Central Ohio Chapter of Muskies, Inc. annual youth fishing event Thursday, July 11th.
COLUMBUS, OH – The Central Ohio Chapter of Muskies, Inc. will host its annual youth fishing event on Thursday, July 11th from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Whetstone Park in Columbus. Approximately 100 youths, who are participants in Columbus Recreation and Parks summer programs, are expected to attend.
“For some youths, Thursday’s event may be their first fishing experience,” said Elmer Heyob, of the Central Ohio Chapter of Muskies, Inc.
The Central Ohio Chapter of Muskies, Inc. organizes this event, with the help of George Wilson of the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, to coincide with a Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs (HOFNOD) program aimed at directing youths toward positive activities and away from drug use.
A $500 ODNR Division of Wildlife Set Outside Grant, plus a $400 Conservation Club Grant from the Ohio Division of Wildlife helped purchase channel catfish to stock in the pond. Club members and new corporate sponsor, Cabela’s Columbus store, purchased food and drinks for the kids, plus rod and reel combos for each participant in the HOFNOD program to use for future fishing trips.
This annual event is cooperation between the Central Ohio Chapter of Muskies, Inc., the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, ODNR Division of Wildlife and Cabela’s
