Spin cast or spinning gear
Small bobber (Styrofoam with lead pins are good for casting long distances)
Small hooks #8 or #10
No more than six pound test line (fluorocarbon leaders are helpful in clear water conditions)
Spinners (no more than ¼ ounce)
Spoons (no more than ¼ ounce)
Crankbaits (small, minnow-like imitations)
Jigs (no more than 1/32 ounce)
When fishing with maggots, place three to five on a small jig and suspend it under a Styrofoam bobber with a lead pin. Cast out as far as possible from shore. Count to five and then reel three to five times on reel handle and let the jig settle. Often times the trout will strike the jig with maggots when it sinks in the water column.
