XENIA, OH - More than 7,000 channel catfish were released in eight public lakes and wildlife areas across southwest Ohio last week as part of an effort by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife to enhance fishing opportunities for anglers.

XENIA, OH - Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH), a ministry that provides nutritious venison to the hungry through food banks and local feeding programs now has four participating coordinators in Southwest Ohio. FHFH helps hunters return to their heritage as food-providers by transforming deer - renewable resources- into meals for the hungry.

XENIA, OH – The Division of Wildlife will host hunter education courses in October and November at three wildlife areas in southwest Ohio. These courses will be held at the Rush Run, Indian Creek and Fallsville wildlife areas.

        XENIA, OH – Two CRP Mid-Contract Management, MCM,  workshops will be offered  in August by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife, Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD’s) and Pheasants Forever (PF).   The workshops will help landowners learn to manage grassland through conservation programs.

XENIA, OH – A small black bear, probably a one and a half year-old, is currently wandering in the Warren County area according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Biologists tracking this bear believe it is a young male on a quest to establish its own territory. As bear populations expand in neighboring states, Ohio will see Buckeye bear populations continue to increase.

CINCINNATI, OH – The Southwest Ohio Chapter of Safari Club International (SCI) and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife will donate venison and other wild game to needy families in eight southwest Ohio counties. The donation will take place at Mueller Roofing, 400 E. Wyoming Ave., Cincinnati OH 45215. A time of 12:00 noon has been set for the donation. HILLSBORO, OHIO - Young turkey hunters will once again be able to take advantage of a permit only Youth Turkey Hunt at Paint Creek State Park during the 2009 spring turkey season.  Hunters 17 years of age and younger, accompanied by a licensed non-hunting adult, are eligible for a drawing to hunt within four specified zones on April 18, 25 and May 2, 9, and 16, 2009.

XENIA, OH – The Miami County chapter of Pheasants Forever along with the, Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife will hold the sixth annual John D. Stull Memorial Youth-Mentor pheasant hunt on February  7, 2009.   The hunt will take place from 9:00am – 4pm on the Stull Preserve, 7670 E. Widener Rd., New Carlisle, Ohio 45344. Participants will have a fun-filled day of hunter education, sporting clays, and bird hunting. After the hunt, the youth will have the opportunity to take part in a demonstration on field dressing and preparing their harvest.
