The highly anticipated public opening of Wingfoot Lake has northeast Ohio anglers sitting on the edges of their bass boats according to the Ohio Division of Wildlife. The well-known lake, formerly owned by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, was purchased by the Ohio Division of Wildlife in June of 2009. The lake, wildlife area, and state park will be dedicated during a public ceremony at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 26th. The gates open at 4:00 p.m.

AKRON, OH – Young anglers still have two more weekends to enjoy the Division of Wildlife’s youth fishing area in the Portage Lakes of Akron. Occupying the grounds of the old Akron fish hatchery, the youth fishing ponds are open to anglers 15 and under through the Labor Day holiday on September 6. Equipment, bait, and assistance are provided at no charge thanks to the purchases of Ohio fishing licenses and federal contributions from the Sportfish Restoration Fund.
