AKRON, OH – The ODNR Division of Wildlife announces additions and other changes to where northeast Ohio hunters may check in their deer this fall. These changes are not contained in the 2008-2009 hunting and trapping digest printed earlier this year. HUNTERS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO CALL THE CHECK STATION PRIOR TO HUNTING SEASON TO CONFIRM HOURS AND SEASONS OF OPERATION.

MIDDLEFIELD, OH - A free “International Bowhunter Education Course” will be offered on Saturday, September 20, 2008 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The location of the course is Geauga County Park’s Swine Creek Reservation on Hayes Road in Middlefield, Ohio.

LEESVILLE, OH- On August 28, 2008, the Ohio Division of Wildlife partnered with the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) to introduce fish concentration devices into Leesville Reservoir. In total, 80 structures consisting of wooden spools and unused Christmas trees were sunk at four locations around the lake.

AKRON, OH – The ODNR Division of Wildlife will hold a public drawing for controlled waterfowl daily hunting permits on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 for portions of Killbuck Marsh Wildlife Area. The drawing will be held at the Valley College Grange, 2411 Shreve Road in Wooster. Valley College Grange is located south of Wooster on State Route 226, 0.1 mile south of State Route 3.

MINERVA, OH – Minerva Cheese factory accidentally released whey, a milky substance, into Sandy Creek between Minerva and Malvern, which temporarily depleted oxygen levels and killed over 5,400 fish according to the ODNR Division of Wildlife. The accident occurred on June 14th and affected a 1.5 mile stretch downstream from the Minerva Wastewater Treatment Plant. Read More »

AKRON, OH – Beginning Saturday, May 24, anglers 15 years of age and under will be able to experience the fun and excitement of fishing at the popular ODNR Division of Wildlife Youth Fishing Area located at 912 Portage Lakes Drive in Akron. The Area will be open for fishing from 9:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. every Saturday and Sunday as well as Memorial Day (Monday, May 26), Independence Day (July 4) and Labor Day (September 1). AKRON, OH – A Lorain County man was convicted recently of killing two antlered deer during the 2007-2008 hunting season, according to ODNR Division of Wildlife officials. Strict Ohio hunting regulations prohibit hunters from harvesting more than one antlered deer per season. Read More »

AKRON, OH – Anastacio Felix, 66, of Lorain, was convicted this week of overbagging steelhead trout, according to the ODNR Division of Wildlife. The conviction cost him $394 in fines and court costs, as well as $300 in restitution for the illegally harvested fish. Read More »


AKRON, OH – Taxidermist Larry Peterson, 69, of Berea, was recently convicted in Lakewood Municipal Court of selling trophy-mounted sport-caught fish in his Lakewood taxidermy studio, according to the ODNR Division of Wildlife. The studio, L&D Bait and Tackle, is now closed. Read More »
