ANDOVER, OH - The ODNR Division of Wildlife, in concert with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC), stocked 293,000 walleye fingerlings (measuring about one inch) in Pymatuning Lake on May 23, 2008.

AKRON, OH – Beginning Saturday, May 24, anglers 15 years of age and under will be able to experience the fun and excitement of fishing at the popular ODNR Division of Wildlife Youth Fishing Area located at 912 Portage Lakes Drive in Akron. The Area will be open for fishing from 9:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. every Saturday and Sunday as well as Memorial Day (Monday, May 26), Independence Day (July 4) and Labor Day (September 1).

AKRON, OH – In 2007, approximately 70 different black bears were confirmed in the Buckeye State according to the ODNR Division of Wildlife. While the population of bears in Ohio may not exactly increase, sightings of the burly creatures are expected.

AKRON, OH – A Lorain County man was convicted recently of killing two antlered deer during the 2007-2008 hunting season, according to ODNR Division of Wildlife officials. Strict Ohio hunting regulations prohibit hunters from harvesting more than one antlered deer per season.

AKRON, OH – As the ice melts from many of Ohio’s inland lakes, anglers across the state will be itching at the chance to fish open waters. Cabin fever has been knocking at the doors of most Buckeye State’s fishermen and women, so soon the reels will be spooled, motors will be un-winterized, and baits will be tossed. Division of Wildlife fish management personnel will also be well on their way to ensure the success of future fishing trips.

AKRON, OH – Anastacio Felix, 66, of Lorain, was convicted this week of overbagging steelhead trout, according to the ODNR Division of Wildlife. The conviction cost him $394 in fines and court costs, as well as $300 in restitution for the illegally harvested fish.

AKRON, OH – Taxidermist Larry Peterson, 69, of Berea, was recently convicted in Lakewood Municipal Court of selling trophy-mounted sport-caught fish in his Lakewood taxidermy studio, according to the ODNR Division of Wildlife. The studio, L&D Bait and Tackle, is now closed.

During any given winter in Northeast Ohio, most reservoirs are drawn down so that ice formation does not harm docks or dam structures. This year, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Lake Milton State Park have agreed to lower Lake Milton to eight feet below summer pool. With this dramatic drawdown, the Division of Wildlife will use this opportunity to enhance the habitat around several key areas around the State Park.

The workshops will take place at the Army Corps of Engineers Visitor’s Center on Wayland Road near the dam of West Branch Reservoir. The new Flying WILD program will be offered in the morning followed by Science & Civics in the afternoon.
