AKRON, OH – Young anglers and their families who plan to visit Division of Wildlife’s youth fishing area in Akron this weekend, July 2nd & 3rd should be aware that the area will be closed on the holiday, Monday, July 4th due to extremely low attendance on this holiday in previous years. The ponds are open on the weekends through Labor Day.

AKRON, OH- The popular Youth Fishing Area located at the District 3 Division of Wildlife Office in Akron (Portage Lakes) will be closed temporarily. On June 25 and 26, crews will be paving the driveway and associated parking lots therefore no vehicle or foot traffic will be permitted.

Thirty-one Ohio teams of 699 student archers competed at the 2011 National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) National Championship, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife. The competition was held in Louisville, Kentucky on May 13 and 14; it drew more than 7,000 students from 34 states and Canadian provinces.

David B. Lane has been appointed chief of the state’s Division of Wildlife by Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Director David Mustine. Lane has served as acting District Manager for the division’s District One Wildlife Office in central Ohio since October of 2009. He replaces David M. Graham who retired from the position earlier this year.

CLEVELAND,OH – Wildlife biologists from the ODNR Division of Wildlife will be examining peregrine falcon chicks and placing identifying metal bands on their legs Wednesday, May 11th, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. A total of three chicks began hatching on April 23rd. A fourth egg failed to hatch. The falcon parents are Boomer (male) and S/W (female).

FINDLAY, OH – The cases against seven Iowa residents, five Illinois residents, and one Missouri resident came to a close April 18, 2011.  A total of 22 walleye related charges were filed in the Ottawa Municipal Court.   The offenders all plead guilty and were found guilty by Court Magistrate Lou Wargo.  The total fines, court costs, and restitutions were $4900.
