COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio hunters increased their wild turkey harvest by nearly 7 percent during the state’s 12th annual fall gun-hunting season that opened in 37 counties on October 13 and ended October 28, according to preliminary figures released by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Preliminary total showed 1,077 birds harvested this year, as opposed to last year’s preliminary gun-season total of 1,010 birds.

AKRON, OH – The ODNR Division of Wildlife will issue one permit for beaver and otter trapping on a portion of Zepernick Lake Wildlife Area in Columbiana County. Interested trappers should meet in the Zepernick Lake Wildlife Area main parking lot at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 10th. A drawing will take place promptly at 4:00 p.m.

COLUMBUS, OH – More than 19,500 advanced-sized muskellunge “muskie” fingerlings, averaging at least 10 inches in length, were stocked recently in nine Ohio lakes and reservoirs by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Another 680 of these difficult-to-raise fingerlings went to Illinois as part of a fish management exchange program among Midwestern states.

The mitigation of a 1993 diesel fuel spill in Indiana that affected a Williams County, Ohio stream has finally been concluded. Fish Creek was severely affected killing off invertebrates, mussels, fish, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and birds. An oil pipeline burst causing 30,000 gallons of fuel to spill into Fish Creek.

The workshops will take place at the Army Corps of Engineers Visitor’s Center on Wayland Road near the dam of West Branch Reservoir. The new Flying WILD program will be offered in the morning followed by Science & Civics in the afternoon. Both programs are related to the national Project WILD program administered by the Division of Wildlife in Ohio.
