What To Look For
This is another Cleveland Metropark that can be a great spot for migrant songbirds, both spring and fall. A diversity of forest types, ranging from riparian woodlands to beech-maple to hemlock, provides habitat for many breeding birds. An interesting web of trails provides good access to the park, which sits along the Chagrin River—a state scenic river and one of Ohio's healthiest streams.
Watch for Yellow-throated Warblers, Belted Kingfishers, Green Herons, and other streamside birds along the Chagrin. There are resident Barred Owls, and a good variety of nesting songbirds. Winter can bring boreal irruptives such as Red-breasted Nuthatch, Pine Siskin, and in good years, Common Redpoll and perhaps crossbills.

Natural Features
The park contains an interesting rock sculpture known as Squaw Rock. An artist named Henry Church used a big sandstone block as his canvas, and in 1885 inscribed his version of the story of the American Indians. A variety of images festoons the rock, and the sculpture is a must-see if you visit South Chagrin Reservation.
