SPRING CLEANUP

Spring means cleaning, and the same is true for Ohio’s natural resources. As the snow melts away, the litter along waterways, beaches, parking areas, and trails is revealed, making this the perfect time to make a clean up before the recreational season begins. There are plenty of opportunities to help clean Ohio in April with more than a dozen spring clean-ups scheduled at state parks.

Ohioans are generating about 14 million tons of “trash” each year – that’s more than 6 pounds per person per day, according to solid waste authorities. Unfortunately, a little too much of that waste finds its way to places other than a trash receptacle. Such litter is against the law and it degrades our environment as well as the places we work, shop and play.

Take advantage of one of the clean-up events taking place this spring and make a difference. Earth Day is Friday, April 22 and clean-ups are taking place across the state that weekend at parks, beaches, campgrounds, and along trails. Grab some gloves, pack a lunch, and spend a day pitching in to clean up Ohio’s valuable natural environment.
