GLRI 2010		 East Harbor State Park features a range of natural settings and recreational opportunities to explore the outdoors. The park’s nearly 2.25 mile Lake Erie shore includes a 1,500-foot swimming beach with fine natural sand. Four off-shore breakwaters slow Lake Erie waves and have made the designated swimming area very shallow. One of the park’s 14 picnic areas is at the beach.

The park’s 1,831 land acres have 10 miles of intertwining paved and dirt trails. The 11 trails range from a half mile to 2.5 miles. A paved multi-purpose trail also parallels the length of the park’s main road.

Scenic wetlands and wildlife can be viewed throughout the park, including from various observation decks and viewing binoculars. Fishing is allowed on Lake Erie and within East and West harbors. Seasonal waterfowl hunting is permitted offshore east of the detached breakwaters.

The park’s campground features 571-sites plus two deluxe camper cabins, two Rent-A-RV sites and 10 group camp sites, a store and a nature center. There are two boat ramps in the park – a free ramp for campers in the campground and a fee-ramp at the park’s marina. The marina also offers seasonal and day-use dock rentals, fuel, a full-time mechanic and boat supplies. Winter activities at the park include cross-country skiing, ice skating (on Lake Erie and in the harbors), ice fishing, sledding and snowmobiling.

This state park has received various grants from the Ohio Coastal Management Program for planning and implementing improvements to the beach and access trails.		 Location Map:
